By-law Officers $lack
I have heard our wonderful bylaw officers give warnings on a number of occasions and have never witnessed tickets being written. Has anybody else noticed this? Their job is not to create their own personal social network. They must be missing a lot of revenue and people are starting to view the bylaws as a bit of a joke, methinks. But just try to walk your dog. They then become Dog Police. Ain't never seen a dog turd on the beach but sure see illegally parked vehicles. They also seem to be missing the boat with fireworks. I wouldn't mind a job driving around , smiling and talking to the tourists. Maybe the Commerce guys have more influence on them than job conscience. I also heard a rumour that one of our councillors encourages them not to write tickets. Any truth to that?

Sandfest washed out but 200 diehard cruisers come to show off their babies
I counted about 200 entries to the car show and they stayed until almost 2:00 pm and what beautiful babies they were. These are true, dyed in the wool car nuts who actually drive their babies in bad weather....true enthusiasts all. Sunset Cruisers be proud. I take my soaking wet hat and tip it to all of you. Kudos also to Friends of Sauble Beach, feeding the throngs and finishing the day by distributing free burgers and dogs to the Cruisers. What a great day! Surprising that so many showed, even considering no Sandfest Looking forward to next year, hopefully in the sun.

Mad about Parking
As we were walking down to the beach, we heard a number of people bitching about having to pay for parking at a beach that "belongs" to everyone. I stopped to talk to one of the gentlemen who had just flicked his cigarette into the dunes. I jawed at him about how poorly people have been treating the beach. People leave garbage, diapers, bottles and bits of their visit strewn all along the beach and dunes. I also suggested that the parking probably didn't even cover half the cost of beach upkeep. He went on to say that "Friends of Sauble" should do a better job of cleanup and mumbled something about tham getting paid all of that money and not really earning it. I reminded him that "Friends" was a volunteer group and it was not their responsibility to pick up after slobs and ignorant beach users. I also pointed out to him how inconsiderate it was of him to throw his old butts into the dunes.

The Ultimate (Parking) Solution
I have it. I have the answer, the absolutely brilliant answer to all our beach-finance taxation problems, the workable everybody-wins big-picture viable solution, and it is so simple it is astounding. I was driving down the Lakeshore the other day and as I passed one of those solar-standalone robot parking attendents, one of the cracked and vandalized ones, not the ones boarded and wrapped to protect it, it came to me in an inspired flash of clarity of mind and soundness of vision, cemented later that day with the chance encounter with a different sort of ticket:
We sell parking as 50-50 tickets!

Kudos to Huron Feathers
Another wild and crazy Sandfest, and thanks and praises to the kids of the Huron Feathers for keeping the tradition alive for another summer's day of beach fun.
