Homes for Christmas
Here's a warming story of Christmas giving that includes a present the size of a box-car, jammed to the top with everything needed to build housing for 4000 Haitian orphans, all thanks to local contractor Jim Howe, Russ Miller of the Sauble Home Building Centre, and the combined goodwill of the Sauble Christian Fellowship members and their partner congregation in Niagra Falls

Can I throw this in
If I may can get some feed back on this. My gut says this is wrong but I know the voices of
of many may disagree.
What will be th outcome and finality of the tabbacco farmers being told they are out of business.
Despite your individual moods on this, isnt it wrong to just say you are sht down.
Now I only caught a bit of info and I am not sure what is in the process. But
for the government to make Millions ( Billions) off these people and then because it may seem and could be the right thing to do cut them off, and then not compensate becase thier lawyers will
play the "correct" card and say you are not eligible dadedadeadeda.
For many years the government has bankrolled promises based on this income and niow
just toddle off and get a new life.

Kudos
One of our regular contributors is highlighted in the latest Wiarton Echo. We may all disagree on many things but I have to take my hat off to his/her work in helping make SBP a better place.
Over the past 55 years of the annual running of the Wiarton Shore to Shore Road Race there have been six volunteer race directors who have kept it going.read more »
They are Fred and Jean Gilbert, Beth Moore, Margo Morgan, and Patricia Symon, all of Wiarton, Hank Nuis, Stokes Bay and the Wiarton Rotary Club. All six will be honored for their dedication at a tribute shortly after the finish of the race on Civic Holiday, Monday, August 6 in the Upstairs Room of the Wiarton Arena.

a nice woman who passed away
I don't know how many of you knew her, but Patti Burns passed away on Saturday. Patti, and her husband, Paul, were the new owners of the Lakeside Home Hardware on Main Street.
Patti was a wonderful addition to the Sauble community. She had an infectious laugh and a warm sense of humour.
However, she was diagnosed and gone very fast.
Her funeral is Tuesday, July 31 at 2 p.m. from the Downs and Son Funeral Home in Hepworth.
Marion Ferris
Just to let everyone know that Marion "Ma" Ferris passed away today. As you will recall, Mrs. Ferris was the wife of the former reeve of Amabel, Bill Ferris. She also contributed to the book "Green Meadows and Golden Sands: The History of Amabel Township."
Mark tells me that "Ma" made the best cheeseburgers at Sauble Beach served at Ferris' Shell station on the main street.
I know your thoughts will be with her family today.
She is resting at the Ferris Funeral Home in Simcoe.

PT Rob finds the Lost Island of Sauble!

This past summer, Paul Robertson visited Sauble Beach on a quest to find the famed The Lost Island of Sable(Sauble), and using tips from this very blog, searched off the beach, and an underwater camera caught the look of glee on his face, when he spotted it!
.....ok....not quite...but it coulda happened....sometime...
Really, I'd just like to point out Pauls changes to his blog, and also his address..hes moved a little further north than California..as you recall, or not..Paul grew up in Sauble Beach , his family owned the pavillion. This has been mentioned here before on this blog, but Paul has added new pictures and songs and lots of other goodies, drop by and have a peak, you won't be disapointed.

....and maybe..just maybe..someday..we'll see Paul have a summer theatre in Sauble..again..

Sauble Skaters Take 2nd at Oberstdorf!
Congratulations to Sauble's resident skating stars Susan Souter and Gary Foster on taking second place at the International Adult Figure Skating Champion in Germany; they maybe had to travel back and forth to Goderich to find suitable ice for training, but it apparently didn't crimp their style.
the International Adult Figure Skating Championship was their competitive debut together.
"This competition was just wonderful," Souter said. "It was like a dreamland ... it was exciting to have all these people speaking different languages but sharing a common bond."
Souter and Foster plan to returned to the Adult Figure Skating Championship next year and are aiming to finish first.
"We only got second place this year so we have to go back!"

Southampton Orb Sightings

While I am certainly no expert on the paranormal, even though every April 1st I get out my ghostdetector,we know our area is rife with sightings of UFO's, dangerous vapour trails , Sauble Beach's own Poltergeist, the Wildman of Oliphant ,the evil eye, giants and little people, and even the lost island of Sable.
Now word out of Southampton has it that the cemetery is a good spot to get your digital camera out and observe ORBS drifting around the headstones.
"At one time, there were actually old coffins sticking out of the side of the hill and smashed headstones on the river bank."

Bruce County Poetic History
Now that the hustle and bustle of summer is over, and you have a bit of time to relax and browse on some downtime,(that is unless this is your busy time)Its time to turn the clock back, yet again, and enjoy some more stories, and history of The Bruce.
I bring you this time, to a very small place called Underwood, down Port Elgin way, where there was a farm that once existed(and may still today) called Antrim, named after the Irish birthplace of a farmer, emigrant and poet by the name of William Hunter. Even though his writings took place over a century ago, the wit, humour and passion is still as enjoyable today, as it was then. His understanding of municipal council of the day, can be WELL understood today, as can be seen in his words from his poem Bruce Council for 1897:
“They'll wipe their mouths, deny the truth
And let our township pay...
All other's wages they cut down
And do it in a trice
But OH! so hard to cut their own
It's never thought of twice...
Economy! Oh Economy!
I'll shout it o'er and o'er
It's just such quack economy
That made old Ireland poor.â€
