6th ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION OF ART WORK
I know that Southampton isn't officially "Bruce Peninsula", but I have two pieces on display, so I thought I'd post it. The show will be on display at the Southampton Art School & Gallery and is being held in conjunction with a collection of food for the local food bank to assist community families in need. Opening Reception & Awards Ceremony held on Friday, April 11, 2008 from 7-9 pm. Everyone is welcome – please bring a non-perishable food item.

When to leave the pressure cooker
A study has shown that people aren't standing up to the pressure of large industry. The same may not be true of working in SBP but it's a reason why people are moving this way.

Sandcastles!
This certainly ups the bar on what is possible for sandcastles, and all you hopefuls for the coming Sandfest may want to cruise in to this site to take a peek at what unbelievable structures are possible with the humble media of beach sand. Truly astounding. These photos are said to be from the SandMaster's competition at the Frazer Valley Harrison Hot Springs Resort.

Young Guitar Monsters
For those of you who missed the show, and especially for those of you who didn't buy Polaroid in the 50's, IBM in the 60's or Eric Clapton in the 70's: A sneak peek at tomorrow's local Guitar Monsters in a fuzzy and loud bootleg tapped from their annual year-end lunchtime concert. The players are all students in May's guitar programme, and range in age from 7 to 14, showing off for their friends here in the lunchtime show:

The Guerrilla Gardeners
Richard has a dream of recording 100 seed-and-run
rebel stealth gardens overtaking derelict urban spaces by the end of the 2006 planting season. I wonder if the recent hit on the public school vegetable garden would count as a shameless act of senseless beautification ...
Founder Richard Reynolds has enlisted the help of people similarly dedicated to beautifying public space in UK urban areas, and the movement has inspired other groups ... Apparently, even the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay are in on the act.

Richard's site is collecting up all the stories, press coverage and covert photo-shoots, and also includes many tips on late-night watering and building tactical seed-bombs.

Bluegrass at Two Chicks
Y'know, it's 9:45 on a Saturday night, and there's sweet strains of high-mountain bluegrass over at Two Chicks!
That's the thing about a beach with a sunset patio: you never know what's going to happen if you don't check it out :)
If you can't make it down for Pete and Edy, then maybe next week? That's when singer Russ Burns takes the patio stage under the stars ...

Images of Sauble
Itchin' for the beach? Still a tad chilly to be wading out in the water just yet, but here's a few more photos to get you in the mood, intrepid traveller jpfleurim's photo gallery on Webshots presents 33 pics of sand, sky and that fab inland ocean of Lake Huron at Webshots - Images of Ontario:Sauble Beach
And while we're on the topic of beachy keen things, is it because I'm way way out of the sports-fashion loop, or has anyone else heard of, seen or even worn Sauble Beach Boardshorts?

Authors in the Bruce
You might think that a sleepy peninsula in near-Northern Canada would be the last place for a wordsmith to ply their trade, but you couldn't be further from the truth -- SBP is brimming with authors, everything from histories to non-fiction field-guides, top technical trade manuals, award-winning children's stories and yes, even fiction.
Especially fiction.
If you've ready any books by our local authors, or even if you've just heard about them, please, let's give our neighbourhood hacks a helping hand: let's tell everybody!
Read any of the books listed here? Go ahead, add a comment, tell us what you thought of it. Many of these books never get into the big-publisher domains like Amazon or Indigo, so the only way people are going to find these online is if they find them in everyday places like this.
IMPORTANT: For everyone's convenience, please include the Title and Author in the Subject line

Snow Crystals
Thinking of snow? From CalTech, something to wile away the hours while awaiting the Early Spring, an online museum of snow crystal photography...
"I estimate the ratio of snowmobilers to snow crystal photographers is roughly a million to one! I have to say I'm at a loss to explain such a high ratio. Snow crystal photography requires some expensive equipment and spending long hours in the cold, but so does snowmobiling."
