Coat cubed meat in flour, set excess flour aside.In a large skillet heat oil and brown the meat ONLY.In crock pot combine beef, bay leaf worcetershire sauce, onion,beef broth,pepper and salt sugar and vegetables(except frozen peas).Pour water on all.Cover and cook for 8 hours on low.Turn control to high and thicken stew with leftover flour(about 1/4 cup)disolved in a small amount of cold water(then added).Add frozen peas.cook on high for 10-15 minutes..until thick.The Guiness adds an Irish taste to it..but of course can be eliminated.

make sure you have lots of bread to dunk in the leftovers..the kids love it.

1 cup beef broth(or one 1/2 cup beef broth 1/2 cup guinness)

6 carrots peeled and sliced
1 cup sliced celery
4 potatoes peeld and cubed
2 small cubed turnips(the small purply ones)
4 cups water
