Bill Blasts the Sun-Times

You'd think collecting the bulk of the votes in spite of any editorials would be enough to convince everyone the irrelevence of print editorials in this modern age, but it seems fourth-time winner Bill Murdoch is still riled by the anti-PC sentiment of the Owen Sound Sun-Times:

Murdoch said he would never talk to Sun Times personnel again, "never buy a paper again," and promised to "do the best I can" to put the paper out of business. "If your editor wants a fight, he'll get one," Murdoch said.

Excuse me for taking an exception to all this; it's not my call, and I'm not the biggest fan of the S-T myself, but I don't think I would go so far as to use my renewed political clout to launch a boycott to run them out of town just because I don't agree with their choice of political party. It's supposed to be a democracy, isn't it? And a pluralist democracy at that

No offense intended sir, but if you ask me, there are other ways to settle our political differences, and it was my understanding that this is what last Thursday's exercise was all about. What's next after rooting out the pro-Liberal press? Is the right-wing christian press next up for a boycott? Then the cannabis party? Then the gays, jews and catholics?

Thursday's result, despite the landslide, should show Bill quite plainly that the popular press is perfectly entitled to it's opinion, no mater how wrong that opinion may be, and that the people, believe it or not, actually do have minds of their own.

If we take exception to what the media has to say, then let's open our eyes a bit and realize that it's the twenty-first century where there's plenty of opportunity to go out in print, on camera or online to air our own point of view.
