Mad about Parking
As we were walking down to the beach, we heard a number of people bitching about having to pay for parking at a beach that "belongs" to everyone. I stopped to talk to one of the gentlemen who had just flicked his cigarette into the dunes. I jawed at him about how poorly people have been treating the beach. People leave garbage, diapers, bottles and bits of their visit strewn all along the beach and dunes. I also suggested that the parking probably didn't even cover half the cost of beach upkeep. He went on to say that "Friends of Sauble" should do a better job of cleanup and mumbled something about tham getting paid all of that money and not really earning it. I reminded him that "Friends" was a volunteer group and it was not their responsibility to pick up after slobs and ignorant beach users. I also pointed out to him how inconsiderate it was of him to throw his old butts into the dunes. I watched as he walked over to the pay booth in silence, paying for a whole day and never looking back. "Have a nice stay buddy and don't leave a ring around the lake!!!"

parking fees
I don't understand people who complain about $10 for a whole day of parking but don't mind paying $10 or more for a hot dog and fries which lasts maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Did you know the municipality has a pass, good for the entire season, for $50.00? Where can you park all day in Toronto for $10.00? I know where I would tell the complainers to go...

petition
Just saw this article in the July 16, 2008 Sun Times:
Petition calls for cut in Sauble Beach parking rate
Personally I hope they keep the rate at $10.00. For crying out loud, it costs more for a hot dog and fries, or going to see a movie at the cineplex. Where can you park all day at the beach in Toronto (or anywhere in Toronto for that matter for $10/day) These tourists should get a grip or stay home. Why do we encourage them to come here and put additional strain on our aquifer for the benefit of a few business owners anyway?
