Picnic anyone?
As we all know, that's not an option this year at Sauble. There's the tables out at the North Beach falls provincial park, and that's it for places to host family mealtime gatherings or just stop on a cycle route for a lunchbox snack. Once upon a time that spot would have been Bannister Park, central, complete with playground, rain-shelter/band-space and even almost washrooms, but that's all on the fast track to being a paved paradise put-up-a parking lot now.
But all is not lost. It seems someone other than me noticed what we lost when we tore down Bannister's legacy; the SunTimes report says the Town have actually known for 4 years now how the loss of that space was a deep loss, tho' if that's true, then it's taken them 4 years to get as far as finding a handout to hand to an architect to make the dream real on paper.
"It will be a focal point for the town and right now we don't have anything like this," said Scott Seibert, who is on the chamber's board of directors.
"This will allow us to hold arts exhibits there, presentations and musical performances. Everyone is really positive about it."
Council voted this week to support and endorse the concept of building a town square, as well as allocate $5,000 received from the Trillium foundation to the chamber to move the project forward.
The $5,000 will be used for initial engineering and drawings. Seibert added the project is so new that they don't even have a projected cost for its completion.

That's the good news. Bad news is, for those looking for a respite from the beachy bustle, the target location for the new idyllic spot will be exposed, open, front and centre in the thick of it downtown, stone's throw from the Subway.

respite
If you are looking for respite from the beachy bustle, I suggest picnicing at Oliphant. Nice beaches and not nearly so many people. Further afield there is a parkette on the south side of Colpoys bay just east of Wiarton that has nice picnic tables and is usually very quiet. There is also skinners bluff which is a great picnic spot although there are no tables. As for the Bannister Park ... isn't that where the Medical Clinic is supposed to go?
