Posted by garym on November 11, 2003 - 2:24pm

This website is our community journal, a place to announce our events, share our experiences, a place to tell our story about this place we call home. Everyone is invited to participate, all it costs is your time and effort, and all for the entry price of a free membership.

SBP members can add to this live journal by

  • keeping a personal South Bruce Peninsula weblog journal
  • posting stories about communities and local events
  • share photographs of South Bruce Peninsula
  • comment on local and regional news or on other SBP posts.
  • contribute website URLs to our news monitors

It’s all about you

This is your story. veggies stand in hepworth The Peninsular is written by the people who live here, no one is paid, no one is told what to write, everyone is welcome. Our role is only to collect these stories, to organize them into a living archive that tells the true story of our area.

It can be tips on how to keep the cottage over the winter, craft ideas, recipes, criticism or praise for Town Council … whatever is on your mind and you want to share it, this is the place to do it.

  • Peninsular News – as a member, you can also post news items about events, policies, ideas, whatever comes to mind as something newsworthy. It’s a fine line between the weblog journal and the news, and where that line sits is largely up to you.

  • Community Book – (coming soon) Our community book is a tourism and residents guide created by the residents. Together, we can create a travelogue that will put the others to shame, because we live here.

Promoting your Website

Do you have a website in South Bruce Peninsula? You can hook into our high google ranking and website traffic by participating in our network of SBP websites.

If you are a website owner, you can get the most out of the Peninsular by participating in our website monitoring networks. Linked sites are featured in our sidebar as they are updated, automatically, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Site Cloud

For lack of a better name: Our site cloud is a webwatcher that will periodically check the target pages and list the site name in the sidebar when the content changes. You do not need to be a member of the Peninsular to contribute your URL.

To be eligible for our site cloud, your site must meet the following criteria:

  • your site must be, in some way, about South Bruce Peninsula. This can be a page of local events by your business or your church group, special announcements on tours, education or the ecology of our region.
  • your site must be kept up to date and updated regularly with new material.
  • your listed page URL must be the same URL every time.

NOTE: Commercial websites advertising products or services are not acceptable for the site cloud. We welcome privately run community events pages, but commercial pages are only accepted in the RSS Syndication listings.

To add your news or events page to the Peninsular, simply email the link to sbp @ teledyn.com with a brief explanation of the region and topics of the page.

RSS Website Syndication

This method is a little technical, but RSS is the more powerful way to include your site into the Peninsular community of websites. When your site is RSS-enabled, our news collection engine will poll your feed daily for changes, conserving your webhost bandwidth and merging your headlines and summaries into our news pages to show at a glance all the latest regional headlines in the sidebar of all our pages.

RSS Syndication is open to all websites based in South Bruce Peninsular including commercial businesses who post new product or service announcements.

You do not need a membership in the Peninsular to submit your RSS link for our news gathering. Your content must be “work safe” and family oriented, and your site must be based in or about the South Bruce Peninsula area.
