Russia Invades Santa!

No joke, I'm totally serious. No, really, this is real: Eying the vast petroleum and natural gas reserves caught under the arctic continental shelf, Putin has just renewed his bid to lay claim to the North Pole in the name of Mother Russia!
At issue here is new data the Russian subs have gathered on the UN-protected Lomonosov Ridge, a geological structure which Putin says is absolutely part of the Russian continent and therefore under his national juristiction.
I wonder what will become of the Comrade Elves? Will Christmas toys now arrive with a note from the Collective Administration?
The region is currently administered by the International Seabed Authority but this is now being challenged by Moscow.
Experts estimate the ridge has ten billion tons of gas and oil deposits and significant sources of diamonds, gold, tin, manganese, nickel, lead and platinum.
A Russian attempt to claim Arctic territory was rejected five years ago, but this time Moscow plans to make a far more serious submission to the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf.

The Russians are on the move!
I am surprised that apparently nobody thinks that this topic deserves a comment.
Russia's geopolitical aspirations are not going anywhere in Europe( NATO is expanding and missile defences are in the planning stages in the Czeck (sp) republic and Poland)Therfore Putin is keen to get his hands on new territory and possible new energy sources. His strategy to have the Europeans become dependent on Russian oil and gas is working so far. Continental Europe has virtually no energy sources. His quest to annex a large chunk of Artic Territory could bring the energy sources closer for export. Siberia is a long way from Berlin.
In the event Putin is successful, which I doubt, (he, like Bush is in the final leg of his elected term) our kids might have to address their Santa Claus lettes to Gorky Park in Moscow.
Comrade Santa
It's official, it's a done deal now, and I'll bet you thought I was joking ...
The Russians, it seems, have been and gone. Talk about sneaking in under cover of darkness!
