Say what? No, not that Southampton U, I mean our own local near and dear Saugeen Sunset shoreline one. Set to site a university you say?

Seems so: Details are sketchy to say the least and about all I can really say is there was some kind of meeting over at the Bruce County museum last week that I learned of a few days too late, but the buzz on the wire says there is some sort of partnering afoot pairing the University of Western Ontario and the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, with nothing more to go on than this recent Media Alert & Reminder ...

Yeah, I'm a tad late on the draw on hippin' ya to that meeting, so if anyone did go, or has any more details on what went down over yonder, do tell, do tell, 'cause I reckon just about every'n could use a tad a learnin', and even if it's on the history of balsamic vinaigrette, it beats a commute to London!

The Real Dope

Apparently, the scoop has to do with the Lake Huron Learning Collaborative doubling the number of courses to be offered in the fall, and one of those being the teaching of Anthropology at the Museum. We get some detail on that in the Goderich Star:

"The Collaborative is also pleased to announce its formal expansion to Bruce County. UWO will be offering Anthropology 026F: Introduction to Biological Anthropology & Archaeology at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre in Southampton. This half-course provides an introductory overview of the history, theoretical/ interpretative frameworks, methods and subject matter of two of the major subdivisions of anthropology: biological/ physical anthropology and anthropological archaeology. Besides providing a background and vocabulary necessary for understanding the scope and nature of these subdisciplines, the course attempts to instill a basic understanding of human evolution and ancient history and an appreciation of the variety and richness of human life in the past--essentially, what it means to be human and how we have come to be as we are. 'These anthropology courses will be fascinating and of interest to many across the region', said Pam Hanington, a member of the Collaborative, because 'Anthropology is more than a body of concepts and theories to be learned; rather it is a way of thinking about the world'. Anthropology 026F will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the Bruce County Museum in Southampton."

You might get some further idea of the scope of the class from this Anticipated Limited Duties Appointments call in the jobs page of the UWO Anthropology Department want-ads, although it does seem odd to be hunting for the staff for a course after the course is already announce ...
