Excellent Question
As Syd Vicious once so appropriately said:
The longer
excuseanswer is that this website is running on software that is unimaginably long in the tooth as such softwares go, but to upgrade it, thanks to the foresight of the authors, I can't just jump up to the latest release, I have to methodically apply each step along the way, and doing so is very likely to destroy the layout of the pages. What that may delight some local webmasters not fond of the 3 column plan, what it all together means is a job that's going to take more time and effort than I've been willing to risk, and that even if it goes well, it could well crumble the SBP to bits for several days while I steal enough time to repair the wrath the upgrade may wraught.but if/when I do, it is very likely that one or both of avatars and recipies could get re-instated, and from what I read over at drupal.org there are a lot of other very interesting community plumbing fixtures that would also be fun to have here on the SBP.
I've been putting it off. No doubt about it. But then I was going to do it, and the S-T did that story about us so I thought I'd hold off until that came out. Then came the election. Here now I'm in a small lull before Groundhog Day, but that lull contains Christmas and some major product revampings at the Day Job. I have tried cloning myself, but none of them are old enough yet to be much use in the technical support arena.
