I absolutely remember the Sauble Elm, and it was titanic. I'd need a map now to be absolutely sure, but you drove towards Hepworth from the Sauble sign and - I think - on one of those country roads just before reaching Sauble Golf & Country Club you made a left. Dad always did the driving and, remember, I was 6 years old at the time - so memory's a bit hazy. We stopped by the edge of the road - was there a sign? Then you went through a wire fence gate and took a path through a semi-wooded area. After just a minute or two ... there you were, at the foot of the biggest darn tree you ever saw. The thing was *massive* around the bottom, and stretched off so high that, standing at the base, you were virtually looking straight up with no end in sight. An amazing, beautiful thing. I was so sorry when I heard it died. Wasn't the stump kept for several years as a landmark? With a plaque? I think so. Wonder if it's still there.
