Birdspotting
This is one is for the birders, and anyone else with an interest in knowing just who it is that is greeting their campsite ears every morning.
A good resouce for bird idenification / watching: USGS's Patuxent Bird Identification InfoCenter includes calls, photos and population coverage maps and seasonal birding checklists. And on a completely unrelated note, they have a sweet guide on the morphology of tadpoles.

Last weekend we rented The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill and our 6-year-old was totally inspired; the next day we trekked out to the hardware shop to refill the too-long neglected bird-feed tub and mend all the feeders in the yard. He's harbouring dreams now of great flocks of new friends -- It doesn't take much, y'know and we should be enjoying a connection to the local nature while it is still with us.
