Citing similar problems and concerns over potable water among the First Nations, Chief Ralph Akiwenzie of the Chippewas of Nawash has offered their support to the Town of Collingwood over the plans to install pipelines to divert Georgian Bay water to Southern Ontario. Writing in the Simcoe Connection, Angela McEwen reports on the proposed pipeline plans and how these bids to tap the Bay and Lake Huron have raised some concern for shoreline communities such as Collingwood.

"There's a lot we can do and the answer isn't just piping water to another community," said [ Collingwood Coun. Rick ] Lloyd. "Twenty years ago, this glass of water was just that - now it's a commodity."
