The Arran Lake Outlaw

Posted by bub on January 23, 2005 - 5:46pm

Our very own wild west outlaw? From Arran Lake? It is true….sort of. This is the tale of Ellen Watson, born at Arran Lake, and moved to Wyoming to become known as Cattle Kate, where she became part of the infamous Johnson County War of 1892. Cattle barons pitted against farmers and landowners .
At first she was thought of as an outlaw, hung by vigilantes with her husband from the limb of a tree for rustling, but it seems that new evidence may contradict this.

"Witnesses were murdered or disappeared mysteriously or were bought off. The three Cheyenne papers, dominated by incredibly wealthy cattle interests, trumped up the ridiculous stories everyone knows today about Ellen being dirty and rustler, and Jim her accomplice, pimp and murderous paramour.
