Wikipedia: Sauble Beach

Posted by garym on October 28, 2004 - 10:12am

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

"The history of Sauble Beach starts at the River. The river that leads to, and empties into this beautiful beach, was first explored by the Indians and later by the French Explorers. "La Riviere Au Sable" was its original name, which means "River to the Sand". This title was used on maps until 1881, when it was changed to "Sauble River." The name for the Beach itself was then quick to follow, and proved to be the perfect, descriptive name- Sauble Beach, which when translated means Sand Beach or Beach of Sand."

The page includes some further details about the history of settlement, modern Chamber activities, local economic growth and the local attractions.
