Great Lakes Concert

Wow being borned in the great year of 1961 these bands will certatinly bring back memories, both good and bad But really now that I am an adult with kids, bills and I job I have to go too, the problems back then don't seem all that bad. Being dumped, stood up getting to drunk at a party and embarrassing myself either with my big mouth or my short temper or kissing someone thats hard to get rid of yea I would like to have those problems again. The songs I look forward to listening to live helped me get throught those same bad times and enjoy the GOOD TIMES that were plenty. Thanks For the Great Site

Steppenwolf, Alice Cooper to headline Owen Sound, Ont., classic

Some more news coverage of the jam on the Canadian Press:

But famed guitar smasher Cooper is on the lineup for the three-day event, called the Great Lakes Jam, to be held Aug. 27-29. Also scheduled to perform are former chart-toppers Cheap Trick, Kim Mitchell, Steppenwolf, and the B-52's.

The concert will be held at a private, 166-hectare facility north of the city called the Northern Sound Grove, which includes camping facilities and other amenities.

"It's got a natural amphitheatre which is marvellous for sound," says spokesman Jim Zeppa.

Famed guitar smasher? Alice Cooper? I think there's a journalist somewhere with some pop-wires crossed...

GREAT LAKES toe JAM

No No No Gary..they must have meant "was smashed while playing Guitar" I remember waiting for 2 hours in the snow oustide the University complex in the early 70's and Mr. Makeup couldnt play cause he couldnt get his equipment through the doors..hmm,,funny I saw him being shuffeled off by his bodyguards lol..
Oh..a note for Lauri...was I THAT hard to get rid of after kissing??
:D

From Van ...

A note in the email bag from West Coastie Ian Murray who's curious about the Great Lakes Jam groove happening way over t'other side of the Sound ...

Gary,

I'm out on the West Coast but know a bunch of folks who have gone to the Jam. I understand this is the first ever there, and I wish them all the best of luck. I'm dying to know how things are going; an estimate of crowd size, behaviors, any anecdotal info you can share that might come your way. Wish the promoters had an onsite link working. maybe next year.

Please post anything you got to your site as I'm checking it often.

Thanks,
from Van

Have to confess I'm a little curious myself, but I don't know any SBPs who've gone, and so far no body has come forward with any comments -- if there's anyone reading this who is/was there and has some details to share, all it takes is a login to join _this_ party.

And I think that's a darn good idea about having a live feed from the festival grounds -- it's cheap, easy to do, and could really open things up -- if you ask me, more festivals could learn to be just a little less anal with their 'product' and realize that while maybe the average aging boomer in Botswana _cannot_ buy a seat at your fest, that doesn't mean they aren't interested in what Alice might say ...

If you're _really_ impatient, you could always watch the mainstream media reports as they trickle into Google News ...

Great Lakes Jam

The concert was awsome, the crowd was of good size. Hope there is one next year, can say if there is it will be huge!!

The website contains some pictures, but not good ones but gives you a good idea of the fun time had by all.

Jammin' on Huron?

Hey, they've posted pictures of last summer's Great Lakes Jam!

I also heard a rumour in the village, don't remember who said it or why they thought so, but someone said they'd heard there was talk of hosting the 2005 Great Lakes Jam in (drumroll) Sauble Beach!.

Or maybe I read it in the Enquirer. So what do you think? We could hold it out at Max Yasgur's farm, camp out on the land, try an' set our souls free, or at least let loose a lot of litter.

Don't touch the brown acid, man.
