The Secret is in the Sludge
After dozens of dead loons and cormorants, many more dead fish and even a couple of dead deer showed up on the beach of Lake Huron outside Kincardine, a citizen's request for information about spills at Bruce Nuclear were turned down, a bit of media proding by the Ottawa Citizen eventually turned up a box of documents, only what went unsaid turned out to be rather curious:
One might have thought that water pollution was a topic of public interest. The nuke plant is in Bruce County -- same area as Walkerton. Maybe Ontario's environment ministry thinks otherwise.
Among the topics blanked out: spills of ordinary sewage.
The reason for keeping this secret has to win a prize for dopiness. The ministry says this might give a competitive edge to the Bruce plant’s competitors.
