theboyk: when you plot lines tracing the route that you describe and connect the two ends it forms a triangle. The dump is in that triangle and supplies a large food source for the gulls.

I'm located (weekends) around that area and I've also noticed a higher-than-usual number of dead gulls along the road, usually from around the Esso station at 6th Street North & 13, along 13 to Oliphant Way, and then along Oliphant Way to the Historical Plaque (boat launch) near Boat Lake (I bird this route quite often on weekends).

My wife and I have said a number of times we thought it was weird seeing this much gull "road kill" as we've never really seen this before (on par with raccoon road kill at times).

I've noticed this mostly from about the July 1st weekend until a week ago (I'm back up in two weeks, so I'll check it out with more attention).

Did you contact MNR or the health services people? All the relevent phone numbers are listed here in the Peninsular 'west nile' report.

Maybe it was a seagull UFO-rapture cult, or maybe it was something even more sinister, but certainly worth a phonecall in the name of public safety-- too bad you didn't have a cellphone camera with you ;)
