Ahhhh quotes on history so many...maybe you refer to the famous one from George Santayana: " Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it" My fav of course is George Bernard Shaw: :"We learn from history that we learn nothing from history."

Well..my very fav is a ZenGary:

On a serious note, has anyone got a copy of Gum Ball Rally, when we speak of the past, the highlights of our culture must be preserved and revered. For some of us Smokey and the bandit and Herbie the Love Bug were what we hold in our hearts as moments of our youth that must be cherished a preserved. Of course when I watch the Buck Rodgers reruns on Space My kinds and I both agree that I can't believe I used to look forward to watching that sh.......course it was what we knew at the time
Despite that, 70's 80's films, whats out there and how.

This is good I know exactly what you mean. But for your idea to work wouldn't the Mayor have to be pushing an impossible $78 million program with the potential to bankrupt us all? I cannot think of anything current that qualifies..... Wait, the budget is coming.

I surely hope not we would stall until 2014. That is a long time to wait for Phil to come back. No, he will come back soon I don't think he can make a living off that farm unless it can grow wheat.

What Are We Paying For?

Just one vote in the last election would have elected John Burley and tipped the balance on the benches. Why John chose to go hunting on the weekend of the Wiarton all candidates meeting I will never know. He cost us all a united Council for he would have voted with Vukovic, Hall and King with Mayor Gilbert deciding the tie vote for four years of bliss and progress.

I really believe that one Councillor, Dan Kerr, is trying to position himself to run for Mayor in 2010 and with his backers makes sure that the present administration can accomplish nothing significant.

Phil's wish for more public attention on Council may look the part of a solution to a problem. In fact it may worsen the problem as Kerr probably wants all the attention on him.

In spite of Gary's expert analysis it is no joke. It is our money they are wasting and we are paying well for good management.

Reporter Phil McNichol doesn't want to go to Council meetings anymore, and his reasons, which we all already know all too well, are put forth hilariously in last Saturday's column:

"Life is too precious not to enjoy at every possible moment. Members of council might want to take more than a little time to think about that, rather than psych themselves up for their next battle with their colleagues."
