tsk tsk, tut tut (tip tip)

Um, a 'scusa senior fyre'guy ... but that's like two stories you've posted lately that were, like, old news that had been already reported here on the Peninsular, which only really goes to show that if really you want in on the latest breaking up-to-the-now local news, maybe it's the Peninsular that you should be reading? :)

But seriously, yeah right-freakin'-on, it is endlessly amazing what passes for resolutions out of our council, eh? I mean, let's just pause and take stock here ab bit: is this really the most pressing news-worthy issue facing our little woodland berg?

I mean, really honestly truly, is electoral boundaries (or even mass-market willies!) in fact actually the thing, the numero uno issue foremost most fore in the hearts and minds of the people you meet as you're walking down the street (the people that you meet each day) kind of people?

I admit, I don't get out much, and I'm not a chatty sort of coffee-shop fixture so I could be somewhat out of touch with the pulse of the general jane and joe, but man, what $30,000 could have done if put towards a pro-active youth program, or seeding a community band, or filling out the library, or some promotion of commercial real-estate opportunities ... or even a decent transparent-government accessible and timely town council blog-journal website so folks wouldn't be so pressed to hang here and speculate on council intentions all the time!

Hey, that's a good idea for a forum topic! "Where would YOU spend that $30,000?" ...

A little off the topic but apropos to staying current around here, I hope everyone knows that all you have to do to keep in step with the posts here on the Peninsular is to drag and drop the location URL into your teledyn.com/gmail account and have the latest stories automagically feed into your email stream! You can track other sites too, but like, who'd need any?

referendum

hi fpg, i also read in the paper that there were not enough votes cast in the referendum to make it binding. i dont know if that is true or not. however, that being said, i voted to keep the ward system in the referendum, but now im not so sure that was the best choice, as, you see, in the last election i had only 2 choices, yvonne harron or melissa mockler. i selected yvonne as the better of two poor choices; that may have been a mistake. perhaps if we didn't have the ward system then i might have been able to vote for candidates who have visions similar to mine for our community. wouldnt we be better served if we could choose our councillors at large?
S.B. P. council!!!

"The Town of South Bruce Peninsula will strike a citizens' committee to look at possible changes to the way local municipal elections are held, including whether to do away with the ward system"
bla bla bla,,,, "Mayor Gwen Gilbert and councillors Betty Hall and King against. Gilbert said later in an interview the ward system was the subject of a referendum in 2003 and an "overwhelming majority of people" voted in favour of keeping it."

Once again council is looking at wasting more time, energy and tax dollars, with an issue that the voters overwhelmingly said no to in 2003. At least Gwen and Betty (both females, Hmmmm) had the common sense to vote no.
