Local Sauble author John Britt will be reading from his latest book, "Bob's Ichthyosaur" at the Two Chicks cafe on the Saturday of this coming August Civic weekend. Musical interlude to be provided by May Ip and Gary Murphy.

Here's one I just discovered from the author's own semi-anonymous posting on the ad-laden SBP Chamber of Commerce forum website:

Greetings, folks. I was fortunate enough to have my first novel published a while back. It is entitled 'Timothy's Take-Out' and "sort of" takes place in the Sauble Beach area. It is a humourous tale about a shy loner who is seduced (by the prospect of 'summer at the beach') into taking a job at a loud, repulsive fast food joint. Needless to say, the experience almost drives him crazy.
The town names in the novel are more or less fictitious, but anyone from your neck of the woods reading it would probably put 2 and 2 togethor!
Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know about my book. I spent many happy summers in and around Sauble as a child, and I think this is reflected in the book.

No idea who Pauley is or even any further details on the book. Their post points us to a website at dontlikemyjob.com but the page has no links, the icons were all broken, and apart from the synopsis of the book (and some links to Amazon, Barnes and Noble and all) that's all you get.

Still ... it's intriguing ...

MY kids..when they were kids..loved this book.Its a cottage staple, and the books that followed are too.Joan is so talented and explains the how to, and the why, and the results so clearly.I recomend any of her books about popups , its a great way for kids to learn and to enjoy some quiet time.(There is a link at the far right sidebar as well)

"Sauble Beach resident John Britt recently released Bob's Ichthyosaur, the story of an old farmer known only as Bob who, while walking by the local bay one night, is convinced that he has seen a giant ichthyosaur swimming in the blackened water. The image haunts Bob for some time, as well as the group of seniors whom he hangs out with at the Legion, until he decides to catch the creature - not for fame or glory, but to fill his freezer with steaks and then give the rest away to his buddies. You might think that a sleepy peninsula in near-Northern Canada would be the last place for a wordsmith to ply their trade, but you couldn't be further from the truth -- SBP is brimming with authors, everything from histories to non-fiction field-guides, top technical trade manuals, award-winning children's stories and yes, even fiction.

Especially fiction.

If you've ready any books by our local authors, or even if you've just heard about them, please, let's give our neighbourhood hacks a helping hand: let's tell everybody!

Read any of the books listed here? Go ahead, add a comment, tell us what you thought of it. Many of these books never get into the big-publisher domains like Amazon or Indigo, so the only way people are going to find these online is if they find them in everyday places like this.
