It's why we're here

Bob, thanks for the encouragement -- the purpose of this site is to use the internet to help make rural communities work, and I figure if people can't find employment-work, there won't be anyone here to make the community. It's too bad the Sun-Times jobs page only lists bogus garbage like "become a Super Shopper!" and the HRDC that I can repost here is full of dirt-jobs.

I also had a service to try and promote real business opportunities (ie shopkeeping and not envelope-stuffing or telemarketing) but had to shut it down after some strongly worded (ahem) concerns from the Real Estate Board. It's already a tough problem of how to encourage people to settle up here and keep the folks we've got, and it's too bad politics can't just get behind us instead of standing in our way. I'd hope if anyone does hear of any good jobs-boards for local gigs (or for houses/apts to rent too) they might drop me a line or just post it here in their own personal SBP blog.

BTW ... 'paralegal' -- is that like a crew in jumpsuits who come screaming up in a flashing box-van and push everyone back and say Give them room! and administer emergency affidavits?

Stand back ... charging ... ok ... CLEAR! ... sign here, please. and here. and here. and here. :)

If you get a TV show, can I write the theme?

Any more local poets.

Paralegal looking for work, any suggestions? BobÂ

This is great to know of poets in our area. I hope many people

will take advantage and publish their poems in a blog.

This gives good practice and exposure to new writers

in the area.

I am an artist and am also interested in seeing more pictures

of the group of seven.

thanks Bub for posting interesting people on your blog

Just for the info for the Interment.Net ( especially you the cemetery nut!) people that record pioneer cemeteries to save before the limestone erodes the words on the stones, she is buried at Little Lake Cemetery in Peterborough.

Another Bruce County Poet

On reviewing the forum posts( check over to the left under Shipwreck Geneology)I had dug up some old files I had, and links, and thought it well worth posting about. Its not S.B.P. I know, and its not my continuing tour of S.B.P., but it IS Bruce, and even though she isnt a outlaw nor a famous politician this is about Isabella
born in Ireland, grew up in the pioneer Bruce, and put her experiences to words.

"Let us to the work of this divinely dowered Isabella–this angelic mendicant, craving nothing of life but its finer gifts–this blessed gypsy of Canadian woods and streams. What a royal life she led! No pose to take, no reputation to sustain, no tendency to routine thinking or lassitude of the imaginative faculty to be struggled with . . . . . not a single syllable out-breathing the 'vulgar luxury of despair.' Happy, happy poet! She, like every other genius, found in the ecstasy of expression at the full height of her nature a compensation that turned all outward trials into details not worth speaking of . . . . . She is purely a genius, not a craftswoman, and a genius who has patience enough to be an artist. She has in abundant measure that power of youth which persists in poets of every age–that capacity of seeing things for the first time, and with the rose and pearl of dawn upon them. ."
