I was VERY impressed by MIP's YTC.He gave me the royal tour, and let me emphasize this to everyone, you will be hard pressed to find anything like this in our so called big cities.(and I work at a university so I think I have a little insight)The technology available is awesome, the well thought out plans..of not only learning and doing and *building*, but also break time and excursions, will make this an opportunity that your kids need to experience.Give them a bit of a break from the MSN or ICQ routine, where they learn to gossip and argue, let them actually learn and get a big step up to the future.
Now...I wonder if Mipette(ok ok I know its Sofia!)will start baking classes...;)
I'd like to also add a little note to this,Sauble Beach is home to 2 of the most knowledable I.T. people I have ever met,Gary and MIP,it bodes well for the future of the area.

Thanks for the detailed write-up Gary! Great photos! I'm glad that you and Nolan enjoyed your visit yesterday to the Youth Technology Camp. I enjoyed have you over and enjoyed (as always) our various discussions regarding technology!

Thanks as well to the many other visitors who came to see us through out the day. The ongoing support from the community has been wonderful.

Touring the New YTC

We took up the invitation from Michael Ianni-Palarchio and dropped in on the Youth Technology Camp and their grand opening Open House this afternoon -- a pretty amazing place, and I'm proud to say that it's right here in the heart of Sauble Beach.

Michael gave us the Royal Tour starting with some ambling bi-ped robots who greeted us at the door. We saw the Lego Mindstorms robotics design kits and a quick demonstration of just how easy it was to alter the programming on a little robot car. From there an introduction to the stop-frame animation and webdesign tools, a robot vacuum (like in the Pepsi commercial), a self-programming Aibo robot dog who's now scared to step of his shelf (did once, fell, learned his lesson) and another strange homebrewed tele-robotic contraption that can be set outside in the back yard to teach the children what it would be like to pilot a Mars Rover!

Pretty amazing stuff. Our tour ended with a demo of some of the 3-D animation tools for game and cartoon crafting and lastly, a short film created by Michael's daughter using the iMovie software.
