It's all economics

Just for the record, I had a chat about this with Irv last Thursday night, and it all boils down to a specific gravity of mash steeped in basic economics: The Guiness truck won't even consider the trip out to Sauble unless we can polish off at least one keg of the black stuff every week ...

Bring Back The Black Stuff

I'll second that, although I'm first to admit that maybe I wasn't being _repeat business_ enough to ensure the keg was always fresh ...

Here's an idea: why not drop all those _other_ pale pretenders to the ale and stout harp-crown and thereby boost the frequency of the Guinness re-order:

bq. "I'll have a Blue, my friend here will have a Coors Light"
Sorry, not much call for those 'round here. Two Guinness?

I'd settle for the common rural-pub compromise of stocking just a few _cans_ of Guinness, behind a glass door, marked, "in case of thirst ..." because it is simply not feasible nor possible and certainly impolite to play a round of cue-and-felt-frightening pool without a pint of porter to wash away the shame of it, losing to the mrs, to the teen kids, or worse, to a blind man, and I've done all three on more than one occasion.

As a side note, for the intrepid bar-keeps, there's a saying that brewmeisters do not choose the brew they make, but that it is their water that makes the choice; Pilsner tastes that way because it is optimized biochemically to the water spectra in Pilsn --- and, sewergate diversions aside, it's worthy of note that the _real_ Sauble water, what we draw up from the ground below us through our sandpoints, is _exceedingly similar to the mineral content delivered by the Dublin city waterworks_

Coincidence?

Back on topic

The astute may wonder what a conversation about beer is doing in the forum marked "Help Desk » Requests" (ie, suggestions on how to make _this website_ better) but do rest yourself assured, being just down the street (ok, opposite end of D-Line and then some) from Irv's Greenhorn Pub, were it to see the return of the black stuff, our contributors and readers, out of their undying gratitude for the opportunity of this voice, would, of course, buy your editor the odd pint or three, and when the editor is happier, the web 'zine is better. _QED_
